I am not sure how to start of this post, but I guess this will do. The current world population is around 6.4 billion people. With current technology, we are about at our limits. With our current production of goods and services, we could feed everybody on the planet – yet we don’t. We don’t of course, because in this world, if you want something you need cash. If you have no cash, then you are out of luck. Regardless, I am not wanting to talk about the hunger problems of this speck of rock Image from Cityofsound.comwe know as Earth. There is a way right now, with our current output and technology of goods and services, we could handle about 40 billion people on the Earth, raising our carrying capacity quite a bit. Of course we would have to lower our standard of living (from a “First World” standpoint), but we could do it. We would have to live in dormatory style housing, with our own private bathroom, live close to where we work, and use public transportation. Our diet would consist of something much more boring, a little meat, leafy veggies, some citrus – enough to get us our vitamins and calories. Will this ever happen? Never. Yet for some reason, I like the idea of it. Its mainly the housing that I like the idea of. It reminds me of cultural revolution China or something of that nature. I like the idea of it, but the American in me would rebel against it, after a long period of apathy that is.Speaking of Apathy, Karl Rove came to campus yesterday. Of course the student body wasn’t told about it until the day previous. He dodged politics mostly, and there was a small demonstration. The students wore a black armband (which I didn’t find out until after the fact). While some old people were revliving their past demonstrating against it like it was the Vietnam war, which was pretty neat. Very peaceful and such, I only noticed because I had to walk through the quad to get to class. Also, I am pretty sure I’ve quit smoking for good. The urge was removed from me about 17 days ago. Since then, I haven’t smoked a single cigarette, nor have I had the desire to. I’ve been tempted, for about 2 seconds maybe a total of 3 times. It is nice – to not be smoking again. And feel confident that it is gone for good.Another good thing too. Jacob has launched his awesome To-Do web application, Tweeto. It is a live saver, and will be even more so once a Widget is made!
